Nebraska Medicine Facing Computer Problems, Patients Forced To Reschedule Appointments

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Nebraska Medicine is currently dealing with a security incident affecting some of its computer systems, which affects patients who had appointments for care.

On Monday, there was not as much activity as usual in Nebraska Medicine. Officials said they would reschedule appointments as soon as possible.

“So now we have to reprogram all of this. I do not know. I don’t want an ambulance to end up picking me up because I wasn’t checked, ”said Angela Temple, a resident of Omaha.

The computer problems concern Temple. She says it delayed her further in her appointments.

“We have already missed quite a few because of COVID, so it is important that these appointments are taken care of,” she said. “This test should have been done almost six months ago and because I’m at high risk they try to make all the appointments at the same time, so I have four appointments.”

Nebraska Medicine released a statement on Monday, part of which read: “Our IT team is working around the clock to bring them back online and we have leading independent technical experts to support our efforts. “

But Temple says that still leaves her with a few questions.

“I don’t know if there was a hack, I don’t know if any of my stuff has been altered. I have multiple meds, it’s all online because I’m in the telehealth system and can’t even access it, ”Temple said.

The Nebraska Medicine statement goes on to say, “We are implementing alternative procedures to minimize any disruption to our patients, and we remain committed to providing the high quality care our patients have come to expect.”

Temple hopes that things will work out soon. Until then, she puts everything in the hands of a higher power.

“So I’m kind of in the air and I keep praying,” she said.

According to an earlier statement released by Nebraska Medicine, computer problems are affecting all of their hospitals.
