INEC Reveals How Hackers From Asia Tried To Attack IReV Portal – TechEconomy Nigeria

According to information made public by the Independent National Electoral Commission, hackers from Asia tried to launch an attack on the INEC election results portal (IReV portal) during the gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun .

The head of the electoral body, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said this on Friday during his opening speech at a stakeholders conference on the management of election results in Abuja.

At the event, organized by YIAGA Africa, a civil society organization (CSO), Professor Yakubu said: “Another technical concern for us relates to the repeated attempts to breach our cybersecurity system for the portal.

“Our engineers have reported several cyberattacks on the portal during the Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial elections, some of them from as far away as Asia. I’m glad to see they all failed.

“However, while we are confident in the security solutions we have deployed for IReV and our entire web presence, we must remain vigilant and continue to strengthen our defenses.

We have instructed our engineers to do everything possible to fully protect the IReV and all of our web resources,” he noted.
